I have decided to do a music magazine for my Foundation Portfolio. My initial intentions consist of developing a theme that links to vintage styleing and musicians that have REAL talent. The magazine is based on artists that are amazing live and hardly ever allow autotuning when recording because they believe in natural raw talent that shouldn't be tampered with. Examples of this are Elisa Doolittle, Jason Mraz, The Script and Colbie Caillate. These types of artists inspire me as i believe in pure talent with little edited features that would just make the musician's voice artificial. My target audience are girls aged between 17 - 25 this is because, at this age, young women are mature about thier choice of music and take it seriously. Therefore are also very interested in pure talent and all the amazing abilities artist give.
Title of my magazine
When it came to choosing my magazine name it was important to think about how it would link to my genre and how it would show what I was trying to portray. Because my magazine is a hybrid I chose the name ‘Decades’ to connect with vintage material of clothing and jewellery. ‘Decades’ also links with music because of the modern day artist that sing in a retro style from decades ago. I chose to make my magazine a hybrid because vintage clothing has become very popular recently and mixing it with the genre of music i've chosen would over all complete the package of vintage style.
Mise en scene
Focusing on my genre again i have strong idea of what background and lighting i would use. because Vintage is seen as plain and pure, having my photographs shot in front of a neutral coloured background to connote the simplicity of my genre. The lighting would be subtle to give the photograph a soft affect to keep the feel sweet and innocent as the artist of this genre tend to come across as this.
